The Common Thread

A reflective, creative activity where teams find a shared story or value that connects them and links to an organization’s mission. It builds personal meaning into collective vision-building.

Use it early to mid-program to build trust and internal network, or when preparing to discuss vision, culture, or organizational values.

Instructions:

  1. Form teams of 5–8.

  2. Teams openly share personal experiences, passions, or dreams related to their fields or work.

  3. They must identify a “common thread” among them.

  4. Create a short presentation (poem, slogan, skit) symbolizing their collective contribution to the organization’s future.

  5. Presentations are shared with the larger group.

Processing Suggestions:

  • Ask: "Was it easy to find common ground? Why or why not?"

  • Reflect: What does this say about your organization’s diversity and unity?
