Make Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick

Despite the best of intentions, most New Year’s resolutions fail – but it doesn’t have to be that way. So what’s the secret? Why do some resolutions succeed where others fail? Here are four tips on how you can stick to your New Year’s resolutions.

#1 DO IT FOR A REASON

If you’re going to stick to your New Year’s resolution, you need a meaningful goal. Something so compelling that it will keep you going when the going gets tough. True motivation comes from within. You have to find a goal that’s meaningful to you.

#2 DO SOMETHING YOU ENJOY

Life is too short to waste time doing things you hate. Having a motivating goal is good, but if you don’t enjoy it, you’ll probably never reach it. So it’s important to find an activity you love. Focus on the ones you like the most and ignore the rest.

#3 DO IT IN SMALL CHUNKS

One of the biggest reasons New Year’s resolutions fail is because people try to do too much too soon. Don’t be impatient! The most important thing in the first couple of weeks is to establish a pattern of success. It doesn’t matter how much you’re doing, as long as you’re doing it.

#4 DO IT EVERY DAY

Small actions, repeated over time, result in big outcomes. Consistency is key. The important thing is to stick to your schedule; keep at it, and your streak will steadily build up over time.

Good luck with your New Year’s resolutions — and let me know how you get on.
